Women’s Health & Hormones
Why this service matters to us
At Derm Haus, we've always believed that real skin health starts from within, and that means paying closer attention to what's happening hormonally too. More and more of our patients have been showing signs of perimenopause and menopause, things like changes in their skin, sleep, mood and energy, often without the right information or support to help them manage it.
So we've introduced dedicated Women's Health and Hormone consultations into both our Bald Hills and Annerley clinics, giving you direct access to experienced doctors and nurse practitioners, without ever leaving the care of the Derm Haus team you already know.
What Is Perimenopause and Menopause?
Perimenopause is the transition phase leading into menopause, when your hormone levels, particularly oestrogen and progesterone, begin to fluctuate. It typically starts in a woman's 40s, though it can begin earlier for some, and can last anywhere from a few months to several years.
Menopause itself is a single point in time, marked by 12 months without a period. Everything before that is perimenopause, and everything after is considered postmenopausal.
During this transition, it's common to notice changes to your periods, sleep, mood, skin, hair and energy levels. Some women move through perimenopause with barely a symptom, while others experience significant changes that affect their day to day life. Neither experience is more normal than the other, and both deserve the right information and support to navigate it.
Concerns we can address
If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone and you don't have to navigate it without support.
Physical symptoms
Hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, irregular cycles, joint pain, fatigue, or sleep difficulty.
Emotional symptoms
Brain fog, mood swings, anxiety, low libido, or irritability.
Skin & hair changes
Dry, dehydration, colour dullness, hormonal breakouts, volume loss.
Metabolism changes and weight loss support
Slowed metabolism, weight gain, changes in body composition, blood sugar fluctuations, increased cravings, or bloating.
Long-term health
Bone density loss and increased fracture risk, cardiovascular health changes, cognitive changes such as brain fog or memory concerns, and increased risk factors linked to declining hormone levels over time.
Patient experience
Having your symptoms downplayed by previous providers, being told "this is just part of getting older," not feeling listened to, or feeling like your concerns aren't being taken seriously.
How It Works
Book your consultation Reserve your Women's Health consultation through Derm Haus, delivered in-clinic. Please call the clinic directly to make a booking 07) 31327999.
Meet your specialist Your Derm Haus doctor or nurse will connect you with your specialist doctor via virtual consultation. This will be for a thorough, unhurried assessment of your symptoms, history and goals.
Get a personalised plan. Your specialist doctor will work with you on an evidence-based plan, which may include lifestyle guidance, supplementation, or medical treatment where appropriate.
Stay supported. Your Derm Haus clinician will support you every step of the way and will check in with you post-appointment, book future appointments and help you understand your plan, follow through on it, and fold it into the rest of your care with us if appropriate.
How This Fits Into Your Existing Journey
This isn't a referral out and a hope-you're-okay. It's a genuine extension of the care you already receive at Derm Haus.
Our clinicians know your skin, your treatments, your goals and that context doesn't disappear the moment a hormone conversation starts. Instead, it becomes part of the picture. If your skin has been changing alongside your hormones, we can adjust your skincare and treatment plan to reflect what's actually going on in your body, not just what's showing up on the surface. If a treatment from your women’s health specialist changes what your skin needs, our team are already across it at your next Derm Haus appointment.
Women’s Health FAQS
-
If you've noticed changes to your periods, sleep, mood, skin, hair or energy or you've just felt "different" lately and haven't been able to put your finger on why, it's worth having the conversation. You don't need a diagnosis or a specific set of symptoms to book; the purpose of the consultation is to help you figure out what's going on and whether hormone health is part of the picture. Your Fresh Health doctor or nurse practitioner will assess your individual situation and let you know what, if anything, is recommended. There's no obligation, and it's a judgement-free space to simply ask the question.
-
No referral is needed. You book your appointment directly through Derm Haus, whether you're an existing client or visiting us for the first time.
-
With support from your Derm Haus clinician, your appointment is delivered by a Fresh Health doctor or nurse practitioner, who specialises in perimenopause, menopause and hormone health. Your Derm Haus clinician isn't in the room for the assessment itself if you would prefer the privacy but they're across your plan afterward and factor it into your ongoing skin and treatment schedule with us with required.
-
Your Fresh Health doctor or nurse practitioner will take you through a thorough assessment via video call of your symptoms, history and goals, then work with you on a personalised, evidence-based plan which may include lifestyle guidance, supplementation, or medical treatment where appropriate.
-
Not quite — it's a hybrid model. You'll come into Derm Haus in person and be looked after by your Derm Haus clinician throughout the visit, but the appointment itself with your Fresh Health doctor or nurse practitioner is conducted virtually, from the comfort and support of our clinic. So you get the convenience of a virtual specialist appointment with the reassurance of a familiar, in-person Derm Haus environment around you.
-
Your appointment is billed directly through Derm Haus. Depending on the consultation type and your eligibility, a Medicare rebate may apply, your specialist will confirm this with you at the time of booking.
