Cosmelan

Cosmelan is one of the most effective and safe professional treatments for visibly reducing pigmentation in all types in all skin types and ethnic backgrounds.

It is a two stage process of depigmentation and regulation. In the depigmentation phase we apply a depigmentation peel in-clinic which works to remove the pigment. This is followed by the regulating phase which consists of a home skincare program that works to prevent further action of melanin (pigment).

Cosmelan is a 6-month depigmentation journey and our Dermal Therapist is with you through the whole process, including performing your treatments, monitoring results and supporting you through the program.

We always recommend having your routine skin cancer screening performed by a medical professional at least eight weeks prior to your first Cosmelan treatment.

Cosmelan is highly effective in treating:

• Solar induced pigmentation

• Melasma

• Hormonal pigmentation induced by a number of factors including hormonal fluctuations (caused by pregnancy, inflammation, illness, medication etc).

Cosmelan works by using high-grade active ingredients which lifts pigment from the lower layers of the skin and helps it shed, leaving a new clear skin. These ingredients further prevent the action of melanin from travelling to the superficial layers of the skin.

Your 6-month Cosmelan depigmentation program will consist of a series of in-clinic treatments and at-home skincare. The in-clinic treatments include:

• Pre-Peel Treatment and LED Light Therapy

• Depigmentation Removal Treatment

• 3 Regeneration Treatments with LED Light Therapy

• Age Element Treatment with LED Light Therapy

Most people find one Cosmelan program is sufficient to achieve the desired pigmentation reduction, however, with more stubborn pigmentation and darker skin types, we may need to perform an additional treatment at the 12 month mark (and sometimes every 12 months) and ensure adequate home skincare regulation products are being used to stop the pigment from returning.

All skin types are suitable for Cosmelan depigmentation. During a Skin Consultation we cover your full health history, as there are some chronic illnesses, medications, and skin conditions which are contraindicated to the treatment.

Included in our Cosmelan package pricing is your home skincare pack. Your Dermal Therapist will take you through the pack and show you how to use it and when to apply.

The pack includes a recovery balm to apply after your treatment while your skin is still tender and your hydrating cleanser, serum, moisturiser and mask. As well as a Cosmelan 2 Cream to use seven days post depigmentation treatment - this stops your pigment from returning.

It is vital to continue use of these products at home as they contain ingredients that support your depigmentation treatment and continue to work on your skin to reach the desired outcome.

You will start to see the effects of the treatment three days after your Cosmelan depigmentation treatment is applied. At seven days the skin is mostly healed and most of the visible pigmented lesions have been significantly reduced and will continue to reduce through home skincare use.

After the depigmentation treatment is removed, the skin is quite red and tender. As you move into days four and five the skin can become swollen, red and tender, and shedding will have begun. It is important to let this shed naturally so as to not cause hypopigmentation scarring. The redness and swelling will have subsided by day seven as will most of the shedding (in some extreme cases the shedding can last for up to 14 days).

Home skincare should be followed as per instructions by your Dermal Therapist. No other skincare products are to be used outside of these instructions as they may be counterproductive to the treatment and interfere with the enzymatic process of the pigmentation removal.

During a Skin Consultation, our Dermal Therapist will conduct a 40-minute in-depth consultation which includes gaining a thorough understanding of your skin concerns and goals and an assessment of your skin using our skin diagnostic facial scanner (Observ 520). This helps to see any skin irregularities which helps to identify the best treatment plan for you.
